Coming soon to subscribers of Blockbuster Video’s Total Access service are video game rentals. On Wednesday the company announced it would be adding gaming titles alongside movies to its movies-by-mail monthly service as part of a pilot program.

This program will start in the second quarter of this year, and will only be open to a limited number of subscribers. The company hopes to have it available for everyone else by the “second half of the year.”

Worth noting is that Blockbuster is making a notable distinction between the value of films and video games in its brick-and-mortar stores. Subscribers of the Total Access service currently get a handful of free in-store movie rentals each month, whereas for game rentals the company will simply be offering them at half price. Such movie and video game rentals are subject to due dates and late fees however.

Mortal Kombat vs SuperfriendsClear off your calendar if you pick this one up. This game is incredibly fun and addictive. The graphics here are amazing, and other than some strange costume changes for The Flash and Green Lantern, they’re faithful to the comics. The Mortal Kombat side of things is pretty much standard as far as character build goes. There are a few minor tweaks, but you can easily see which character is which. DC has Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, Captain Marvel, Joker, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, and Deathstroke. MK has Lui Kang, Scorpion, Sub Zero, Shang Zui, Kano, Jax, Sonja Blade, and Kitana. I missed seeing Johnny Cage in here, and I think Catwoman could have been scrapped for another hero like Green Arrow or Hawkman, but for the most part you can’t complain about their choices.

Each character has their own unique moves. It’s easy to see where spending some time playing the same character will make you a formidable opponent if you take the fight online. Most of the characters have long-range attacks, and the finishing moves are spectacular!

Playing in story mode is a one-player affair. First you choose which side you’re playing on (MK or DC). The DC side finds Superman stopping Darkseid and accidentally opening a portal that begins to bring the two realities together with crushing results. In Story Mode, you play as each character over time, learning individual moves and getting just good enough with each before moving on to the next. Some of them have a bit of a learning curve, but for the most part the major attacks are the same button-mashing combination (but with different results for each). By far my favorite characters are The Flash and Captain Marvel. Flash has a move called “Around the World” that will leave your enemies spinning and unable to attack for a few precious seconds. Captain Marvel can call down the Shazam lightning on his opponents (among many other cool moves).

By far this is the best DC game that’s come out in years. Though the gameplay is basically the same thing between cutscenes (fight somebody), it’s still a lot of fun.

Power Leveling is most frequently used in multiplayer games, where it usually refers to a player that is of much greater power assisting a player of much lower power in defeating enemies that are far too powerful for the low level player, but are easily and quickly killed by the more powerful player. Defeating high level challenges rewards the lower level player with experience points more rapidly than normal.

In World of Warcraft Powerleveling or Power Leveling has become so popular for players looking to quickly advance through the lower and not very exciting levels of the game that a number of profession gaming companies have set up powerleveling or power leveling services.

Power Leveling service companies, for a fee will help you enhance your World of Warcraft character.  They log into your account and play your character either for a certain amount of time or until a certain level or objective is achieved.  While you character is being leveled you are required not to login to your account.  Most offer the following power leveling (powerleveling) services:

* Customized Packages, you specific what type of character development you are looking for and work with the company to create a package.  Usually more expense then pre-defined options.
* Part Time development, this is done over a set number of hours - 6,12,24,36, or 48.  A professional gamer players your character for this set amount of time.
* Specific development from one level to a higher level.  e.g. From level 20 up to 40.  You pay a set amount of money for this service and it is done over time, usually with a guaranteed maximum time limited to archive the desired level.
* Professions development, from Mining to Blacksmithing.
* Increase your Honor Kills for PvP & PvE servers.
* Complete Quest
* Get your character gear
* Get Keys
* Build your characters reputation

DO’s & DON’Ts When Buying World of Warcraft Power Leveling Services

When looking for a World of Warcraft power leveling (powerleveling) service make sure they DO NOT have your character do any of the following: employed in Player-Killing, Kill-Stealing, hoarding of farming locations, or any other despicable in-game behavior.

DO make sure they following this: No macros, dupes, game bug exploits, and other such fraudulent methods will never be used. In short, your character will be leveled the safest way possible: by going through the grind.

Although it’s not 100% certain as of yet, Bungie may not be creating another new Halo title after they finish their work on Halo 3: Recon.

James Brightman at GameDaily.com reports

Speaking to GI.biz, Bungie PR director Brian Jarrard revealed that after the studio is done with the recently announced expansion Halo 3: Recon, the team will be starting work on other projects and may not revisit Halo. When asked if the Recon team would continue work on the Halo trilogy, Jarrard responded, “I don’t think so. We’ve already put a couple of map packs out, we do have more maps on the way. We actually have a Mythic map pack coming out early next year. We don’t have firm details or a date yet, but we do have one more map pack coming out, and then we do have some maps associated with the actual Recon retail release.”

He continued, “But I think when this project wraps up in a couple of months that will be the time when that team moves on to something else - part of that team will move on to something else and part of them will probably be absorbed into one of the other projects that are already on the way.” [Bungie is currently working on three separate projects.]

The Halo franchise has been a huge success for Microsoft and it seems crazy that they’d allow the plug to be pulled on one of their best titles, especially considering the mass amount of gamers out there who anticipate any new release in the series.
